Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that Israel will not withdraw from southern Lebanon, while talks between Israel and Lebanon continue under the mediation of the US administration.
Speaking at the MUNI EXPO conference in Tel Aviv, Katz stressed that Israel's position remains unchanged.
"We have made it clear that under no circumstances will we withdraw and, from this moment on, this is a diplomatic achievement, there is no American demand for Israel to withdraw from Lebanon," the Israeli minister declared.
According to Katz, this position has also been communicated to Washington. He said he had made Israel's position clear to his American counterpart, while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had held discussions on the same issue with US President Donald Trump.
The minister's statements come on the second day of negotiations between Israel and Lebanon, held under the auspices of the Trump administration.
Earlier, Katz stated that Israel had no intention of withdrawing its forces from southern Lebanon. However, recent comments make this position even clearer, underlining that he would not change even in the event of a request from the United States.
Meanwhile, previous international media reports have suggested that Israel had considered a limited or symbolic withdrawal from some occupied areas in southern Lebanon as a gesture to the Lebanese government. So far, there has been no official announcement confirming such a move.
