Russia attacked Ukraine overnight with sustained airstrikes, using cruise and hypersonic missiles, as well as Iranian-made drones, Kiev's Air Force said on Sunday.
At least 10 missiles appear to have penetrated the air defenses. Local media said one person was wounded in the attack, which appeared to be concentrated in an area of western Ukraine far from the front line.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced that there had been killed and wounded in an earlier strike on a blood transfusion center in the town of Kupiansk, a railway hub, about 15 kilometers from the front line in the eastern Kharkiv region.
Rescue workers were putting out a fire at the scene, he said on Saturday night, describing the strike as a "war crime". Mr. Zelenskiy did not mention figures for the victims. Russia denies targeting civilians on purpose.
Ukraine's air defenses destroyed 30 of 40 cruise missiles and all 27 Shahed drones that Russia launched overnight, the Air Force said on the Telegram messaging channel.
Ukraine also said that Russia launched three Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, but did not provide any further information about them.
It is not clear what happened to the 10 cruise missiles that failed to be neutralized by the Ukrainian defense./ VOA
