Russian authorities will transport 55 asylum seekers who were waiting to cross the already closed "Salla" border point with Finland to the last open point in the north of the Murmansk region.
According to the governor of Murmansk, Andrei Chibis, another 200 foreign nationals who could not cross the border have decided to stay in Russia and will be provided with buses to St. Petersburg.
The announcement comes just a day after the Murmansk region declared a state of alert after Finland said it would close all but one border crossing between the two countries, themoscowtimes reports.
Finland accuses Russia of allowing undocumented migrants - mostly from the Middle East and Africa - to cross their shared border to destabilize the country.
Helsinki joined NATO this year, ending decades of non-alignment, in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Chibis also said that the situation at all border points with Finland, including at Lotta, the only functional crossing, was "under control".
