How real is Wagner's threat to take over Moscow?
Yevgeny Prigozhin

Today Wagner Group boss Yevgeny Prigozhin threatened to march on Moscow from the southern city of Rostov-on-Don, which he claims is now under his control.

But, theoretically, can he reach the capital, or is it just a big blackmail to the Kremlin?

Prigozhin claims to have 25,000 armed fighters under his command. Most of them have been involved for months in fierce fighting in eastern Ukraine.

In recent days, Prigozhin has withdrawn his troops to Russia's border regions, including Rostov and Belgorod.

But most of these fighters are currently far from the Russian capital.

To get there, Prigozhin and his men will have to travel hundreds of miles through Russian regions where there is a special "counter-terrorism" regime.

Unconfirmed reports say a Wagner convoy was hit on Saturday by Russian airstrikes in the Voronezh region, halfway to Moscow.

Both Prigozhin and the Russian defense ministry are now actively urging gunmen on the opposing side to defect, but at this stage it is unclear who will have an advantage.

However, there is already talk of a new civil war across the country.
