President Vladimir Putin said in an address to the nation that the Russian armed forces have received the necessary order to neutralize the organizers of the rebellion.
"The Russian armed forces have received the necessary order to neutralize those who organized the armed rebellion," Putin said.
The BBC reports that Russian forces of the Order have raided Wagner's office in St Petersburg.
"Law enforcers have entered the PMC Wagner Center on St. Petersburg's Zolnaya street," the media reported.
Two buses with police and national guard have arrived at the building, it is reported that they have entered together with civilian officers.
The media claimed that "masked men with rifles" were stationed near St Petersburg's Blagoveshchensky Bridge, home to a hotel and restaurant linked to Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin.
