The last entry in Queen Elizabeth II's personal diary

The final entry in Queen Elizabeth II's personal diary, written just two days before her death, has been revealed in the updated version of a new royal biography.

According to British author Robert Hardman, the Queen made her last entry in her diary on September 6, 2022, while at the royal residence at Balmoral. Two days later, on September 8, she died at the age of 96.

Her last note was short and practical: "Edward came to see me."

This is a reference to her private secretary, Sir Edward Young, who helped the Queen prepare for her final public duty, meeting with new Prime Minister Liz Truss to swear in the new government.

Elizabeth II has been known for her devotion to journaling throughout her 70-year reign. She used the practice as a form of daily documentation rather than for personal analysis.

"I don't have time to record conversations, only events ," he once told sociologist Kenneth Rose.

According to palace sources, the Queen always wrote with pen and black ink, in leather-bound notebooks. She kept notes at her desk every day, no matter how tired or late her schedule, never skipping this habit.

The tradition of the royal diary continues with King Charles III, who, according to his aides, maintains a more personal form of writing, where he summarizes the day's thoughts and reflections at the end of each evening.

This discovery comes as part of the updated edition of the book "Charles III: New King. New Court. The Inside Story", published on November 7.
