The White House has hinted that the Kremlin may be responsible for the death of Wagner Group boss Yevgeny Prigozhin.
"We all know that the Kremlin has a long history of killing opponents," said White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
Mercenary leader Wagner and other top officials died in a plane crash last week, according to Russia's investigative committee. Prigozhin died on August 23, after the plane in which he was traveling from Moscow to St. Petersburg crashed.
A mystery has surrounded the cause of the crash. Russia has launched an investigation, but some experts have said their findings will be unreliable and we may never know exactly what happened.
Wagner's mercenary group announced that Yevgeny Prigozhin was bid farewell today.
"The farewell ceremony for Yevgeny Viktorovich was held through a small organization. Those who want to say goodbye can visit the Porokhovskoye cemetery," said the Telegram channel used by Wagner.
