
Italy has given the alarm that Covid-19 has started to reappear.
According to the latest report published by the Ministry of Health, in the last monitored week (August 17-23), there were 11,606 positive cases, compared to 5,919 the previous week. The positivity rate went from 6.5% to 9.2% and the number of swabs also increased, from over 91,000 to over 126,000. The incidence of diagnosed cases was 14.5 per 100,000 population, up from the previous week (11 cases per 100,000 population).
According to "Corriere Della Sera", in many countries of the world, the rates of positivity are increasing. In Great Britain (on August 17) the positivity rate was 7.1% compared to 5.4% in the previous report. 10.8 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
A wave of coronavirus infections has hit summer camps, schools and workplaces in the US as well. Over the past week, hospitalizations rose by 18.8% and the swab positivity rate was 13.4%, a slight increase from a week earlier.
The Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) reports an increase in SARS-CoV-2 transmission in more than half of EU countries providing data, although levels remain "low with limited impact so far in hospitalizations".
