The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, will not attend the funeral of his 'enemy', Yevgeny Prigozhin. The news was confirmed by the Kremlin, which indicated that Putin has no plans to attend the Wagner boss' funeral.
"The president's presence at the funeral is not on the agenda," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced at a press conference on Tuesday.
We recall that the head of the Wagner group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, died in a plane crash a few months after he led a failed uprising against Moscow.
Prigozhin's private plane crashed northwest of Moscow on August 25, killing all on board. Among the victims were important figures of the mercenary group created by Progozhin.
The Kremlin denies involvement in the air crash, while the Investigative Committee says it is continuing its investigation into the incident.
Two months earlier, Prigozhin had led Wagner's rebellion against the Russian armed forces, seizing the southern city of Rostov and threatening to march on Moscow. But the clash eased after an agreement was reached that led to the relocation of Prigozhin and Wagner's fighters to Belarus.
Now, Wagner's fate remains unclear. The leader's death calls into question the future of his private army, which fought alongside Russian forces in Ukraine before the short-lived rebellion against military leaders in Moscow.
There has been no official confirmation of the date or location of Prigozhin's funeral, despite speculation on local Telegram channels that he may be laid to rest at Serafimovskoye Cemetery in St Petersburg.
