Stoltenberg on alert: Europe should increase the production of weapons, the

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, during an interview, called on Europeans to increase their weapons production to increase shipments to Ukraine and prevent a confrontation with Moscow "that could last decades."

Stoltenberg said he will raise this concern during the meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels on February 15 and 16.

"We need to rebuild and develop our industrial base faster to increase deliveries to Ukraine and reorganize our stocks. This means we need to go from slow production in times of peace to fast production in times of conflict." Stoltenberg told German newspaper Welt am Sonntag.

"There is no direct military threat to an ally (NATO). At the same time, however, the Kremlin regularly directs threats against NATO countries," Stoltenberg said.

Stressing that the Russian invasion of Ukraine nearly two years ago showed that peace in Europe no longer exists, he insisted on the importance of protecting the alliance countries.

"As long as we invest in our security and remain united, we will continue to prevent any attack. "NATO is not looking for war with Russia, but we must prepare for a confrontation that could last decades," he said.
