The storm floods Malpensa airport in Milan, water rushes between passengers in

A powerful storm hit the area of Varese, in the north of Italy around noon, causing major disturbances at Malpensa airport.

The storm, accompanied by heavy rainfall and widespread lightning, caused the cancellation of 27 flights to other airports in Italy including Linate, Orio al Serio, Turin and Venice.

The situation was particularly dire at Malpensa Terminal 2, where many passengers returning to Italy faced large puddles in the arrivals area.

Route 336, which leads to the airport, was also flooded, but was not temporarily closed.

According to information from VSM, over 64 millimeters of water fell during the storm, which translates into 64 liters of water per square meter, in a period of about 80 minutes.

This massive rainfall caused flooding in the airport's access roads and brought water into Terminal 2, as well as leaking from the ceiling in Terminal 1.

However, the situation is beginning to normalize both at the airport and on the road network, and the authorities are committed to repairing the damage and restoring normalcy to the operation of the airport.
