
Heavily armed police responded to an "incident" near CIA headquarters in McLean, Virginia, on Wednesday.
Police have blocked traffic on two roads. The incident began shortly after 10 a.m. local time in Virginia, according to a post from the Fairfax County Police Department on X, warning drivers of a road closure outside the CIA headquarters.
Fairfax County Police said its Special Operations Division was "on scene assisting."
The CIA issued a statement at around 1:24 p.m. confirming: "There is an ongoing incident that law enforcement is responding to outside of CIA headquarters."
Fairfax police said no reports of shootings had been reported on the radio. Several local news stations reported an armed man experiencing a mental health crisis in the area earlier.
The incident comes a day after the Trump administration released new and redacted spy agency files related to the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
