The UK will suspend 30 of a total of 350 arms export licenses destined for Israel. The decision came after the New Labor government said it had discovered there was a "clear risk" that British weapons would be used in serious breaches of international law relating to the treatment of Palestinian prisoners and the delivery of aid to Gaza, the Independent reported.
The head of British diplomacy, David Lammy, said that Israel has the right to defend itself, but that he was not satisfied with the answers he received after expressing his concerns to the Israeli government.
The British foreign minister noted that the decision was based on growing concern about Israel's actions since he took office after a general election in July.
In his speech to the Lower House of Parliament, Lammy stated that Israel's actions continue to lead to massive civilian casualties, widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure and untold suffering.
The spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Laila Moren, from the ranks of the Liberal Democrats, said that such an action should have been taken long ago by the previous government, which has not shown any initiative in this matter.
" Liberal Democrats welcome this decision as a step forward made by the government ", said Moren.
