Kushner's withdrawal, Vučić reacts: Serbia lost 750 million euros in

Serbia lost 750 million euros in investments after the sudden withdrawal of the American company "Affinity Partners", led by Jared Kushner, son-in-law of former President Donald Trump. The ambitious project, which envisaged the construction of a luxury residential and business complex with the Trump brand in the center of Belgrade, was canceled amid pressure from protests, criminal charges and political disagreements.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić confirmed the news, calling it “a great loss for the country.” He publicly accused some of the opposition and protesters of deliberately sabotaging the project. “We had a great opportunity. Today, Serbia is being talked about badly, while Albania benefits from a smaller project that has received all the attention of the Trump family,” Vučić said, alluding to the parallel project on Sazan Island.

The reaction comes just days after the announcement of the indictment against Serbian Culture Minister Nikola Selakovic, accused of violating the law when removing the cultural protection status of the destroyed buildings of the Yugoslav General Staff, hit by NATO in 1999. It was there that the Trump complex was planned to be built.

The project was strongly opposed by the opposition, activists and cultural heritage experts, who demanded the restoration of the historic building and not its privatization for commercial purposes. The decision to withdraw the investor is seen as a blow to Vučić's plans to attract American capital to the region.
