Russia rejects Kiev's proposal for a temporary ceasefire over Christmas. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the ceasefire would allow Ukrainians to regroup and prepare for the continuation of the war.
However, Peskov said the Kremlin remains committed to peace and stopping the war.
"We want peace, we don't want a ceasefire that would give Ukraine breathing space and time to prepare for the continuation of the war. We want to stop this war, achieve our goals, secure our interests and guarantee peace in Europe for the future. This is what we want," Peskov told reporters.
The Kremlin spokesman also commented on contacts between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, clarifying that the two leaders have not spoken on the phone since their communication on October 16.
Peskov's statement came after a question from reporters, echoing previous statements by Donald Trump, who had claimed to have recently spoken with Vladimir Putin, without specifying when exactly the conversation took place.
