Two of former President Donald Trump's lawyers have resigned after he was indicted on federal charges over his refusal to turn over top-secret government documents found at his Florida home.
The matter was further complicated when an audio recording made public by CNN showed that Trump was aware of the secret documents. Their decision came after Trump announced that Walt Nauta, his former White House adviser, has also been indicted.
" I just learned that the 'bad guys' at the Department of Justice are going to indict a wonderful man, Walt Nauta, a member of the US Navy who proudly served with me in the White House, retired as commander in chief and then worked as a private personal assistant ," Trump said in a post on the Truth social media platform.
Trump also announced that he would be represented by Todd Blanch and that two lawyers who had led his defense in the documents case, Jim Trusty and John Rowley, were resigning.
The trustee and Rowley announced their resignations from representing Trump in a joint statement, noting that "we will no longer represent him either in the case in which he was charged or in the January 6 investigation." We recall that Blanch is a former prosecutor who resigned from an elite law firm to defend Trump against criminal charges in New York.
