United States President Donald Trump hosted the Japanese prime minister at a time of rising tension in the Middle East, stressing the need for international cooperation in the Strait of Hormuz.
During the statements, he announced that he had asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to stop the attacks on Iranian energy facilities. "I told them not to do it anymore, I don't like it," Trump said.
The US president described the conflict as temporary, declaring that it "will be over very soon", while adding: "I had to make this small intervention and do something that no other president had the courage to do."
He also emphasized his stance on Iran, stating: "All countries agree with me that Iran is a threat to the entire world. We have destroyed their navy, their air force and their leadership."
Trump also spoke about developments on the ground, saying that the US has the capacity to strike Iranian strategic targets: "We can destroy Kharg Island whenever we want," adding that so far the oil pipelines have been left untouched.
Finally, he underlined that he does not plan to deploy American forces abroad: "I am not sending troops anywhere, and if I did, I would not tell you."
