An appeals court in New York has given Donald Trump 10 more days to post his bail while he appeals a civil fraud conviction and reduced the required amount from $464 million to $175 million.
That's a big save for the former president, who, along with his grown sons and his company, was fined more than $464 million, including interest, after Judge Arthur Engoron found that Trump and his his defendants had fraudulently inflated the value of his assets.
Trump struggled to find the means to post the full $464 million bond, the total he would need before Monday's appeal decision.
The New York appeals court order in Trump's civil fraud trial means he and his sons can continue to run businesses in New York and receive loans from New York financial institutions for now.
The decision by the New York appeals court removes for the time being the possibility of New York Attorney General Letitia James seeking to seize the former president's property to enforce the ruling against him.
Donald Trump praised the appeals court's decision, in a statement outside the courtroom, he said he greatly respects the court's decision.
In turn, Trump attacked Judge Arthur Engoron, who ruled that the former president must pay the full $464 million judgment in the civil fraud case.
" What he has done is such an injury and it should never be allowed to happen. The state of New York is being hit by his decision. Judge Engoron is a disgrace to this country ," Trump said.
