United States President Donald Trump stated that relations with Venezuela are currently very good and announced that he plans to visit the country.
He stressed that he maintains a very good relationship with the interim president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez. According to him, the US administration is working closely with her to ensure access to oil resources. Trump assessed the level of relations between the two countries with the highest grade.
Asked by Reuters whether Washington would recognize Rodriguez as the official government, he stated that the United States is already cooperating with her and praised her work in office.
The White House did not immediately provide a clear position on whether official U.S. policy toward Venezuela has changed. In recent weeks, Trump administration officials have made it clear that the U.S. does not recognize Rodriguez's interim government as legitimate.
US Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated during a visit to Venezuela that Rodriguez is acting as interim president and is working with the United States.
On the other hand, Rodriguez considers Nicolas Maduro to be the legitimate president of Venezuela.
Public positions indicate a phase of practical cooperation between the two sides, while the issue of official recognition remains unclear.
