The United States will no longer mediate peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia after Vladimir Putin refused to sign a ceasefire, The Telegraph reports.
The State Department said it is changing the "methodology of how we contribute" to the talks and will not "fly around the world at the drop of a hat" for meetings.
It comes after the US signed a minerals deal with Ukraine on more favorable terms than initially thought. Donald Trump also reportedly signed off on the first round of arms shipments from his administration to Kiev.
The State Department said Kiev and Moscow must now present "concrete" proposals for ending the war and should meet directly to resolve the conflict.
Trump has become increasingly frustrated with Putin. US intelligence briefings overnight also suggested that Mr Putin is now in a weakened position and has shifted his war aims to consolidate gains.
