Pakistan-administered Kashmir has urged residents near the de facto border with the Indian part of the region to stockpile food, as tensions between the two rivals have risen following a deadly attack last month.
India blames Pakistan for an attack by a gunman on civilians and tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir on April 22, which killed 26 people.
Islamabad denies these allegations.
The two nuclear-armed states have exchanged fire for eight consecutive nights along the Line of Control, the de facto border, according to the Indian military, and the two neighbors have taken diplomatic measures against each other.
"Instructions have been issued to stockpile food supplies for two months in 13 areas along the Line of Control," said the prime minister of the Pakistani-administered part of Kashmir, Chaudhry Anwar ul Haq, on May 2.
The regional government has also created a $3.5 million emergency fund to ensure supplies of "food, medicine and other basic necessities" for the 13 areas, he said.
The attack in Indian Kashmir and the tensions that followed, including explosions and closures of border crossings, have raised fears of a greater escalation between Pakistan and India.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday gave the military "full operational freedom" to respond to the attack.
Pakistan has denied any involvement and said it has "credible information" that India is preparing for a military attack, vowing to retaliate.
India and Pakistan, which claim Kashmir as theirs in its entirety, have fought over the Himalayan territory since the end of British rule in 1947.
