Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said today that Turkey is officially challenging Iran for its repeated denial that it has launched ballistic missiles towards Turkish territory, stressing that technical evidence collected by Turkish authorities contradicts Tehran's claims.
At a press conference in Ankara, Fidan said that Turkey possesses detailed technical data, including radar, trajectory tracking and fragments, that prove the Iranian origin of the recent missiles that were neutralized by NATO air defense systems.
" Again, they are not taking responsibility for this incident. They claim that they did not order any such attack and have no connection to it. Of course, there is technical data available... and we are discussing these discrepancies with them at the diplomatic and military level ," Fidan said, referring to recent talks with Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi.
This is the third time in nine days that NATO defense systems have intercepted ballistic missiles entering Turkish airspace, following incidents on March 4 and 9. Iran has consistently denied involvement, claiming that the missiles did not originate from its territory or that they were diverted by other factors.
Fidan stressed that Turkey was raising these contradictions directly with Iranian officials and warned that Ankara would take all necessary measures to protect its air sovereignty and national security. He added that Turkey's deterrence capabilities are "extremely strong" and that the country knows exactly "where and when to use force."
Turkish officials have demanded full explanations from Tehran and reiterated that any further violation of airspace will be considered unacceptable and will be met with a firm response.
