
The Greek police have opened the trunk of the BMW of Vangjelis Zabunis, who was executed in Athens during the early hours of Sunday morning.
The investigative team said that a Kalashnikov assault rifle with dozens of bullets was found in the victim's vehicle.
A Glock pistol was also found in the victim's body. Vangjelis Zabunis could not use the weapons and escape the assassination.
Over 80 bullets were fired at 44-year-old Vangjelis Zabunis by at least 3 people, in an assassination attempt that shocked the entire Greek public opinion due to the brutality of the execution.
A few minutes after the crime, the police found an abandoned vehicle at the exit of Athens, which is thought to have been used by the perpetrators. Inside it were found two Kalashnikov assault rifles and a pistol.
Vangjelis Zabunis was one of the most important exponents of the Greek mafia. In 2018, he escaped an assassination attempt only after the perpetrator's gun was blocked.
Zubunis had been arrested several times and was at the top of the list of suspects for several attacks on other gangs. He was involved in smuggling fuel, alcoholic beverages and fines.
The police declare that Vagjeli Zubunis was executed by hired killers, as they surrounded a large part of the capital in order to identify and capture them.
