A few days after being declared "non grata" by the United States of America for corruption, the head of Struga Municipality, Ramiz Merko, reacted on social networks.
Through a post, Merko writes that he is in the function of justice, whenever he is called on this matter, as he adds that he has decided to freeze his political activity.
"After the latest development regarding the decision of the US State Department, I did not want to communicate in favor of the processes for which I will be open as always in support of justice and for each process in the justice bodies from the side of the institution of the Municipality of Struga and on my part it will be submitted as soon as possible as I have been transparent every time to the justice bodies and all other institutions.
For this, in the interest of the process, I decided to freeze every activity in the party structures until the closing of the important processes for everyone. Finally, I want to thank each citizen for the support over the years, but also the support they have not spared and these days, which I am convinced we will spend together, in order to create the conditions for a better life for the citizens of Struga and not only, for the Struga we love" writes Merko.
The US Department of State declared Ramiz Merko non-grata due to his involvement in significant corruption.
In the announcement of the Department of State, it is stated that the mayor of the municipality of Struga has misused funds and interfered in court proceedings and other public proceedings, damaging the public's trust in the democratic institutions of North Macedonia.
