Ukraine takes the war to the Russians' doorstep as it launches over 140 drones against the world's leading nuclear power.
In the biggest attack since the conflict with Russia erupted, Kiev targeted Moscow and western Russia, killing at least one woman, destroying dozens of homes and forcing the closure of the capital's main airports.
Moscow Governor Andrei Vorobyov announced that two apartment blocks had caught fire in the Ramenskoye area, 50 km from the Kremlin. According to him, a 46-year-old woman had lost her life there, three people had been injured and 43 others had been evacuated to temporary accommodation centers.
"We were asleep. "I woke up to go to work, looked out the window and saw a huge explosion," said one Russian.
Russian authorities claim to have shot down at least 20 drones in the Moscow region and 124 in 8 other regions. 3 out of 4 Moscow airports were closed to air traffic after the attacks and dozens of national and international flights were suspended. An important road leading to the capital was temporarily closed.
Videos posted on social networks show flames coming out of the windows of multi-story residential buildings, where dozens of apartments were damaged. As Russian forces advance in eastern Ukraine, Kiev is trying to take the war to Russia, with a bold incursion into the Kurs region and massive drone strikes deep into Russian territory.
Moscow has equated these to acts of terrorism and has vowed to retaliate. Russia also launched dozens of "Shahed" drone strikes overnight against Ukraine, with most of them being shot down by the air force. Iskander-M and Kh-31 air-to-surface ballistic missiles were also launched.
