Caroline Crouch's killer has begun proceedings to be released from prison.
Babis Anagnostopoulos, 34, murdered his British-born wife Caroline, 19, before staging a crime scene by tying himself up and killing their dog, at their home in Greece. He attempted to cover up the murder as a robbery scene, where his wife was the victim of a gang that attempted to rob them.
The couple's daughter, Lydia, was found next to her mother's lifeless body, placed there by her murderous father. The crime occurred in May 2021.
He claimed that robbers had strangled the mother of a child to death, but the police soon discovered that he was the real killer.
The killer has been in prison ever since, having been sentenced to 27 years in prison.
But today, the killer's lawyer announced his client's intention to file an appeal against the court in a desperate bid for freedom.
"Everyone has the right to a fair trial. Let there be one so that what was not heard in the first instance court can be heard," the lawyer said.
He stated that the murderer "reads a lot and works in the prison canteen" and should not be punished for a crime "that was never premeditated."
Caroline met Anagnostopoulos when she was just 15 years old on the Greek island of Alonissos and the two married just three days after she turned 18.
Crouch, underwent "a long and painful death," according to a state coroner who examined her body hours after the incident on May 11, 2021.
The pilot's legal team claims that no mitigating circumstances were taken into account in the previous trial.
Anagnostopoulos' lawyers previously argued that he had acted "in the heat of the moment" after an argument.
He also argues that his family was targeted by an Albanian gang, while they were threatened that their little girl, Lydia, would be kidnapped.
There are suspicions that Anagnostopoulos killed his wife because she had threatened to leave him if he continued drug trafficking. The accusation was made in the Greek media by the father of the murdered 19-year-old.
He claimed that the imprisoned pilot had confessed everything in a typewritten letter he had sent to him.
Caroline's death made headlines around the world, as the young mother was found brutally murdered next to her 11-month-old daughter, Lydia.
Anagnostopoulos continued to claim that his wife was the victim of a ruthless gang that forced its way into their apartment on the outskirts of Athens.
He played the role of the grieving husband for 37 days, crying with reporters, visiting his wife's grave and even comforting Caroline's heartbroken parents.
