This announcement comes just days after Zelensky revealed a new 20-point plan, which is alleged to have been discussed between Ukraine and the United States, as well as after his contacts with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Another strong development in the diplomatic backstage for ending the war in Ukraine came after a tweet by President Volodymyr Zelensky in the early hours of Friday.
On the social network X, Zelensky announced that a meeting with former US President Donald Trump has been agreed upon in the near future, emphasizing that "many decisions can be made before the New Year."
Rustem Umerov reported on his latest contacts with the American side. We are not losing a single day. We have agreed on a meeting at the highest level - with President Trump in the near future. A lot can be decided before the New Year. Glory to Ukraine!

According to Zelensky, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov informed him about the latest contacts with the American side, while he emphasized that Ukraine is not losing a single day in diplomatic efforts. "We agreed on a meeting at the highest level - with President Trump in the near future. Many things can be decided before the New Year," he wrote, closing the message with the slogan "Glory to Ukraine."
The announcement comes just days after Zelensky unveiled a new 20-point plan allegedly discussed between Ukraine and the United States, and following his contacts with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. The plan calls for a freeze on the front line at current positions, without offering an immediate solution for the territories occupied by Russia, which make up about 19% of Ukrainian territory.
Unlike previous versions, the new document does not include some of Moscow's key demands, such as the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from areas of Donbas still controlled by Kiev or Ukraine's legal commitment not to join NATO. For this reason, it is estimated that Russia is unlikely to accept the proposal. Asked about this issue, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow is "considering its position," avoiding commenting on the details.
'Long live Vladimir Putin'
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, in his Christmas speech, said his country needs peace as the war with Russia continues.
“We celebrate Christmas in a difficult time. Unfortunately, not everyone is at home, not everyone still has a home, and, unfortunately, not everyone is with us today. However, despite all the difficulties brought by Russia, it is unable to invade or bomb what matters most. This is our Ukrainian heart, our faith in each other, and our unity. We are happy when we hear Christmas music, but even happier when we do not hear the music of evil, when we do not hear drones and missiles flying overhead.
On Christmas Eve, the Russians showed once again who they really are. Massive bombings, hundreds of Shahed drones, ballistic missiles, Kinzhal missiles, everything was used. This is how infidels attack. This is how those who have absolutely nothing in common with Christianity or with anything human do. Today we all share a dream. And we make a wish together: 'Long live Vladimir Putin,' each of us can think privately, but when we turn to God, of course, we ask for more. We ask for peace for Ukraine. We fight for it. And we pray for it.”
Reaction from Moscow
"Volodymyr Zelensky's statements raise doubts about his ability to make adequate decisions for a peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian conflict."
This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the Ukrainian leader's Christmas speech, in which he said "everyone has a dream, that he dies," referring to Vladimir Putin.
For the Kremlin spokesman, this is a rude and disastrous attitude.
"Zelensky seems like an unsuitable person at all. The question is whether he is capable of making adequate decisions for a solution through political and diplomatic means," he added.
Meanwhile, negotiations between Russia and the United States on Ukraine are making "slow but steady progress." However, Washington "must strongly oppose and stop Europe's attempts to sabotage this progress," Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said during a press conference.
