Who is the brothel: the professors' yesterday, or the 'rebirth' of the reptiles?
In a cynical statement during the show "Top Story", Socialist leader Edi Rama, accused of destroying the identity of the Socialist Party, responded with a provocative label: "The Socialist Party before me was a brothel party."
A sentence that would have passed as a joke, if it did not represent the typical arrogance of a man who found the party elevated and transformed it into a personal clientelist organization, where neither ideology, nor morality, nor dignified representation survives.
PS before Rama: party of professors, not a "brothel"
It is a fact that after the reform in 1991, the Socialist Party went through a difficult transition phase, but from the mid-1990s to 2005, it was led by personalities from the academic, cultural and political fields, who consolidated it as a serious force with a European identity.
The names that stood at the head of the SP – Fatos Nano, Dritëro Agolli, Servet Pëllumbi, Et'hem Ruka, Arta Dade, Ermelinda Meksi, Sabit Brokaj, Moikom Zeqo, Spartak Poçi, Luan Rama, Arben Malaj, and many others – were figures with an intellectual profile, educated, with institutional ethics and professional authority.
This was the PS that Edi Rama found ready, built with sacrifices in the face of a repressive regime, raised with social idealism and a European vision.
Rama did not reform the SP: he conquered and stripped it
Since 2005, when Edi Rama took over the leadership of the party through trickery, the systematic purge of professors began and their replacement with servile, clients, traffickers, functional illiterates, and incriminated names.
Instead of respected former ministers and MPs, Rama filled the party and government with people like Endri Fuga, Çngjëll Agaçi, Bledar Çuçi, Eduard Shalesi, Mirela Kumbaro, Rakip Suli, Elvis Roshi, Aqif Rakipi, Tërmet Peçi, Agim Kajmaku, and a gallery of characters who represent arrogance, corruption, and connections to the underworld.
He stripped the party of its program and ideology, stripped it of social democratic values, and transformed it into a tool for absolute power, where every decision-making passes through his office.
Who is the brothel: the professors' yesterday, or the reptiles' Renaissance?
If the pre-2005 SP was a "brothel," as Rama says, then he must explain why he inherited it and used it to come to power, and why he filled it with the darkest and most compromised figures in Albanian politics.
In fact, if there is any moment where the SP turned into an organization with dubious composition, it begins with the introduction of Edi Rama himself into the party and the gradual capture of structures: from the Ministry of Culture, to the Municipality of Tirana, and then to the leadership of the SP.
That's when the true brothelization of this party began, where obedience to the leader became more important than meritocracy, servility more than ideas, and mediocrity more than expertise.
And will the former leaders of the Socialist Party remain silent?
It is time for the true figures of the Albanian left to no longer remain silent in the face of this collective insult. Edi Rama cannot publicly insult an entire generation of personalities who shaped the Socialist Party as a European party, while he himself has reduced it to an organization without debate, without values, and without a compass.
Because the question is simple:
Who is the "brothel" - the SP of scholars and people with integrity, or the one ruled today by the boss and his criminal clientele? / Pamphlet
