Brothers-in-law/: How the "Gërdec friendship" Berisha-Mediu broke

Sali Berisha has launched an attack on the head of the CEC, while Fatmir Mediu refuses to sign the lawsuit against his brother-in-law Celibashi. In the background: niece, sister, positions in the CEC and the planned silence on the diaspora vote scandal and the 11 million euro tender with DHL...

After the accusations against Edi Rama, the Albanian Post and the private company DHL, Sali Berisha has launched a direct attack on the head of the CEC, Ilirjan Celibashi, accusing him of being a collaborator of the SP in the manipulation of the diaspora votes. Berisha warned of criminal charges against Celibashi, which he is finalizing on behalf of the "DP-Greater Albania" coalition.

The indictment was signed by Berisha, Ilir Meta, Vangjel Dule and the leaders of three small allied parties. But not by the other 18 coalition parties. The most vocal among them: Fatmir Mediu, who has openly refused to sign the indictment.

Mediu's refusal is neither political nor procedural. It is personal: Ilirjan Celibashi is his brother-in-law, husband of Ardjana Mediu's sister, while Mediu's niece, Ejona Mediu, is Celibashi's chief assistant at the CEC. Other members of Mediu's family are even employed in key sectors of the CEC: tenders, finance, contracts and the electronic system.

Under these conditions, Mediu cannot sign for sending his brother-in-law and niece to SPAK. Especially when it comes to sensitive procedures such as the 11 million euro tender with DHL and the role of the state post office in sending and returning diaspora votes.

The scandal deepens even further, as it is precisely the officials connected to the Mediu family who have overseen the process and have remained silent about the descriptions of the use of patronage agents as "independent observers", a scheme that has now taken the form of systemic manipulation.

These developments have caused a serious rift between two historical figures united by Gërdeci: Sali Berisha and Fatmir Mediu. The latter, although well-positioned through the DP lists and a secure mandate as an MP, seems to no longer follow Berisha in his offensive against electoral institutions.

All this is happening, while the government is silent, the CEC acts as if it is untouchable and the opposition is torn to pieces. This is the biggest shock that the election hurricane can cause this time. And Sali Berisha seems to have clearly understood that for the first time, there is neither a word nor a signature that can be sewn behind him. /Pamphlet
