The “live” video that Edi Rama published from the car was neither an explanation nor a speech. It was a narrative of rage, a groan of a man who has just destroyed one of the last real structures of the Socialist Party on the ground, Vlora. What happened the day before was not an ordinary dismissal, but a clear and brutal blow on three fronts: legal, political and personal.
In legal terms, Rama has directly intervened in the powers of local government by dictating to the mayor of Vlora who to dismiss and whom to appoint.
Politically, he has overturned the mandate of May 14, 2023, eliminating not only the winners of the elections, but also the spirit of any structure that is not personally controlled by him.
On a personal level, Rama has destroyed the Gramoz Ruçi clan, perhaps the only nucleus with any real gravity within the SP that did not depend on his orders.
Rama has hit Vlora in parallel with Tirana, launching an offensive against every area where the Socialist Party has ever had an independent political life. His plan is simple: no socialist should survive in the SP unless he is part of Babloku's "tarafi".
He has tried it before with Erion Veliaj, with Arben Ahmetaj, with Fatmir Xhafaj, and now it is the turn of Vlora, a symbol in the history of the Albanian left, but which for Edi Rama is no longer anything but an obstacle.
Gramoz Ruçi's entire political investment in that city, from Shpëtim Gjika, to Dritan Leli and Ermal Dredha, has been uprooted from the foundations and replaced with people from the Democratic Party. This is neither a coincidence nor an "opening". It is a usurpation with a final goal: that in 2027, the SP candidate for the Municipality of Vlora comes from the DP. This is the height of the greed of power, an alliance with every party, except the socialists.
All this is part of a larger scheme that starts in Shkodra and ends in Sazan. Rama no longer wants mayors, no longer wants strong figures on the ground, no longer wants structure, ideas or spirit. He only wants a propaganda apparatus, a handful of notaries and many emissaries who carry out his work. He even has a successor ready: there is talk of Lea Ypi, a socialist with leftist ideas and right-wing roots, created to be a sterile figure, acceptable to internationals and without any risk to the supreme leader. So, a quiet epilogue for a long ruler.
The attempt to symbolically and realistically harm Gramoz Ruçi through this massacre in Vlora is not an impulsive act. It is a carefully thought-out line. The dismissal of the structures that helped the SP win in 2023, the placement of DP people in key positions in the administration, the start of a plan to change the political identity of the city; are signals that show that for Rama there is no longer a left, no longer a legacy, there is only power and personal survival. There is only one tool, one weapon and one king.
Now the PS has turned into an organization where true socialists are unwanted, where the old structures are being replaced with right-wing clientele and local businessmen, and where every figure who had any regional influence is being eliminated. Rama has become the leader of a machine that no longer has any ideology or ideals. Vlora was the last symbol that stood in his way and was finally broken. Now the PS is his alone.
