The higher number of foreigners than in 2023 who visited Albania in the first half of the year, turns out to have spent less and visited more. Data from the Institute of Statistics show that it was retail stores that sold the most, leaving behind bars and restaurants.
Economy tourists and savers caused retail trade in the second quarter to grow to the highest value in the last 2 years, 5.9%.
Rrahman Kasa, from the Albanian Tourist Union, says to A2: "In general, a large part of these tourists came with this purpose, they were faced with the prices as in their countries, they were disappointed, they said no, they were not there free. The advertisement made to Albania that it is a free country is wrong. Albania is equal to the region. If they refer to the market to buy cheap things, that's another story."
And according to INSTAT's report on the progress of inflation, it turns out that bars and restaurants did not have a big impact on the increase in prices. This is directly related to the supply-demand principle, showing that these tourists frequented these structures less in the first 6 months of the year.
The main sales in this period of the year were realized in non-food items with 2.7%, followed by food markets 1.9% and fuels 1.3%.
"Our aim is to attract quality tourists. We must have quality service, which unfortunately is very little offered. There are several reasons for this, but the first is the infrastructure, starting with the roads, the lighting, the boilers", Kasa added.
The retail sales volume index, calculated based on the deflation of the value sales index, reached 110.3%. /A2CNN
