"The two madmen who play the role of God!" is the very catchy title of an article by Jeffrey Sachs, published a few days ago in "Il Fatto Quotidiano". I took this provocation seriously, overcoming the lack of empathy I feel for that newspaper and for the pro-Putin American author; for whom the "madmen who play the role of God" are only Trump and Netanyahu, while Putin or the Ayatollahs... are not even mentioned.
However, they “play the role of God”... So, I don’t know if they “play” or really believe in him. I lean towards the latter, given the serpent’s deceptive but convincing promise to Adam and Eve: “You will be like God!”
Of course, it is no coincidence that Pope Leo criticizes the "delirium of omnipotence" that destroys everything and closes every path to dialogue, as was sadly seen in the Islamabad negotiations.

In this way, these originally religious forms are transformed into ideologies easily usable by the authorities.
In a recent article in "Cronache Romane", Roberto De Mattei emphasizes that the error of these ideologies and doctrines lies in "interpreting the struggle between good and evil as a struggle between secular powers for world domination."
