He wanted a campaign like Trump's, but he's getting a campaign like

This campaign is revealing to us for the first time a "soft" Berisha. A politician who has lost his confidence in walking, to whom people wish him well while pointing out his age, who begins to forget dates and places or whose words come out distorted, becoming the object of irony and ridicule from his opponents...

Like Trump, he only has the hat they told him to wear on his head. The others so far are like Joe Biden, the president he silently hated, as he watched his administration condemn him to non grata status. Sali Berisha is making a lot of noise about him these days, not so much for the promises that are known to be numerous and generous during campaign times, but more for the blunders, gestures and banal little jokes in front of the cameras. This is a Berisha from the last electoral campaign, whom we knew and remembered very differently over the last 30 years: on top of the electoral race, full of momentum and populism that emanated from his entire being. So much so that many, friends or enemies, half-heartedly admitted that this politician was born for campaigns and rallies.

Today, the course of events has turned Berisha into the biological symbiont of someone who finds it difficult to manage the pace of a national election campaign. More or less like the "hated" Joe Biden who would slide down the stairs of an airplane or stare somewhere in the hall while giving a speech. It is the only side that Berisha would not want to show in public. It is that aspect that in a populist politician like him, who always offers the fight, the confrontation and the raised fist, constitutes an unacceptable contrast, a capitulating break, a fatal turn towards defeat.

Sali Berisha has had only one taboo in his political life: to appear weak in the eyes of Albanians. In the most difficult moments he has been defiant and unwavering, harsh and non-negotiable in his attitudes and behavior. He has been the archetype of the post-communist political leader who does not change his path under any circumstances, who remains stoic and fierce, whatever the situations and positions he finds himself in.

This campaign is revealing to us for the first time a Berisha in his "soft" version. A politician who has lost his confidence in walking, to whom people wish him well by pointing out his age, who begins to forget dates and places or whose words come out distorted, becoming the object of irony and ridicule from opponents. Everything normal and physiological for a man with many years on his back, but at the same time everything that is unacceptable and that contradicts the model and mentality that Sali Berisha has cultivated in Albanian politics.

The doctor would like a Donald Trump-type campaign, which ended with the billionaire's victory over the Biden-Harris duo. In fact, unwillingly and quite unexpectedly, his campaign is starting to resemble Joe Biden's list of gaffes and failures. A fatal and most hateful shift imaginable for Berisha, who, with the constant energy of Edi Rama who is at every moment of the day on video or in the field campaign, is unable to maintain the right rhythm and tension.

This is not the campaign that the opposition had planned with Berisha. The Democratic Party has been wandering for 12 years in the electoral nostalgia of Sali Berisha, as the politician who transforms at the moment of the political race. In fact, what the opposition is finding is an aspect of weakness that, although expected and logical, was considered distant and impossible for the Doctor's followers. At least in these elections, where Berisha constantly repeats that he will be the next prime minister after May 11.

The moment when the current parliamentary elections are being held coincides with a much-debated topic in recent years, which is that of the consumption of the post-communist political elite. The emergence of new parties on the scene and the boredom of the Albanian electorate with the old faces of the past 30 years still on the scene, make the failures and failures or blunders in front of the campaign cameras fatal. This is happening to Berisha at the most undesirable moment. He wanted a campaign like Trump's, but he is getting a campaign like Biden's. Big problem, three weeks before the vote!
