Justice captured by crime, more dangerous than administrative corruption

A corrupt prime minister is temporary, but a corrupt judiciary is a national disaster that gives every government the guarantee to abuse without fear.

Albanian justice is not inviolable and should not be treated as sacred just to cover up its incompetence and corruption. On the contrary, it is today the most captured, most paralyzed and most corrupt institution of the state. And the facts are undeniable.

Since 2020, Himara Police have referred four clear cases of unauthorized construction to the Vlora Prosecutor's Office, with indisputable film and documentary evidence.

Every citizen can see with their own eyes the 200 m² building being built without any permit, in flagrant violation of the law. But what has the Vlora Prosecutor's Office done? Nothing. No investigation. No responsibility.

On the contrary, it has attempted to dismiss the issues by cynically declaring that “the fact does not exist.” This reasoning is not only absurd, but also insulting to the intelligence of citizens and offensive to every law that is supposed to be enforced in this country.

Even more scandalous is that the IKMT has estimated the damage at 113 million lek. So, we have real economic damage, an illegal fortune built up in broad daylight, an irrefutable fact filmed, and yet the prosecution chooses to turn a blind eye.

What does this show? This shows that in Vlora, and not only, the prosecution is no longer in the service of the law, but in the service of crime and interest groups that pay to be untouchable.

In this situation, the courts become part of the same farce. Instead of delivering justice, they drag out the process by returning files for further investigation. This eternal “investigation” is nothing more than a method to bury cases in drawers, waste time, tire citizens, and ensure that no one is punished. This is a classic model of captured justice, where crime is protected and the citizen is punished.

At this point, the truth must be told: the greatest corruption in Albania is not only that of the administration, but that of the judiciary. A corrupt administration may temporarily harm citizens, but a corrupt judiciary makes corruption eternal, legalizes it and transforms it into a way of governance.

A government, no matter how corrupt, can be changed by vote. But a captured justice system cannot be changed by election. It is hostage to clans, interests and criminal connections. And this is precisely the reason why the country does not move forward, why every reform stalls, why every hope is extinguished.

I say it openly, I support Edi Rama on this point, not because his administration is clean, on the contrary, it is steeped in corruption and incompetence, but because justice that does not act is more dangerous than any corrupt administration.

A corrupt prime minister is temporary, but a corrupt judiciary is a national disaster that gives every government the guarantee to abuse without fear.

Without a functioning justice system, no reform makes sense, no law is respected, no government is afraid, and no citizen finds protection.

This is why Albania is in this state. Because incompetent and corrupt prosecutors and judges have turned the law into a shield for crime and a weapon against honest citizens. And until this system is shaken to its foundations, any attempt at change will stall. This is the reality that cannot be hidden with propaganda or facades.
