With these so-called choices he made, Berisha is insistently showing that he cannot be the candidate to govern the country, no matter how corrupt and autocratic Edi Rama may be.
I think that the opposition is not the problem of this country. If there are things that are not going well, the responsibility undoubtedly falls on the one who governs. But, I want to see and judge the opposition as the future government, or as an alternative that I can choose to replace the government.
In this context, what did the so-called elections in the DP produce?
It took months to organize a comedy show, according to which 96% of DP members voted for Berisha.
Beyond the fact of where the democracy of Albanian parties has degraded, the question that must be asked today about the opposition is:
Is the DP stronger today, after the "elections"?
Is it numerically larger?
Is it more capable of attracting not only its members, but also citizens who are not its members but want political change in governance?
And, above all: Is there a more credible governing alternative today?
I say NO!
Because, at least according to official DP data, some 2,000 of its members rejected Berisha for president. Can they support him for prime minister?
Berisha may deserve to be at the head of the DP. Because he fought hard, faced backstage issues within the party and outside the party. He survived many scenarios, not only political but also diplomatic.
He deserves to be the leader of that party. But can Berisha lead that party to power?
I say NO again!
With these so-called choices he made, Berisha is insistently showing that he cannot be the candidate to govern the country, no matter how corrupt and autocratic Edi Rama may be.
It is sad that the political environment is failing to produce new leaders, with different principles, new approaches to politics, democracy, freedom, and thought.
