"Diary of a Prisoner", a book that tells his story but also shows us the two realities of justice!
Power is measured not only when you have it, but especially when you lose it.
From the President of France to the famous "La Santé" prison in Paris, after a highly controversial decision internationally. A 20-day narrative that shows how strong, but also how fragile, a man with great political power can feel.
Friends, enemies, revenge, letters, meetings... and above all, the importance of choosing the right legal team in the most difficult moments.
As a lawyer, and having read almost all of his books (thanks to Marash Logu who provides them to me as soon as they come out), I can't say that this is his best book. But it is probably the most humane.
After the first 20 pages on the first day, I put it down due to a busy week and finished it this Sunday.
Two messages (Sarkozy's statements) that stuck in my mind:
-Moving from politics to the private sector:
" I wanted to prove to my friends and enemies that you can be a politician at the highest levels, but at a certain point you feel that you have even more value and opportunities and decide to become active in the private sector as a lawyer or investor. Politics has given me a lot and now it was my turn after leaving it." (pp. 99-100)
-The mistake and the lesson learned in selecting the legal team!
“ Professional and structured defense is key in cases like mine. When you have to choose a legal team, do it quickly and with good professionals. The delay through my own fault is a lesson I will never forget .” (p. 75)
In the end, the book leaves you with a strange feeling, especially when you compare it to the Albanian reality and Albanian prisons, the debates on detention, justice, the special prosecution there and here, or compare it to the case of former President Meta, the manner of his arrest with the manner of Sarkozy's arrest, which I have written about before!
