What can the US embassy preach after Trump's victory?

Those who threatened Albanian voters with "eating grass", who violated every diplomatic code by calling not to vote for "non gratat", have now chosen to support a segment of justice, which claims to change the political elites by avoiding and overcome the vote.

The shocking victory of the billionaire-turned-politician, Donald Trump, which will exert influence in the hottest spots of the globe, will not go unnoticed even in our small and remote province.

If in the USA, he will have absolute power, controlling the senate, which passed to the Republican majority, most likely the congress and together with them the Supreme Court; whether the effects of this victory on NATO, Ukraine, or the Palestinian issue are expected to be chilling; for Albania, the way he was elected and the path he followed to become the second president in the history of America, who returns to the White House after leaving it once, may be of value to Albania.

In our current context, it is important to look at how a man who violently contested the outcome of an election and called on his supporters to storm the Capitol won the hearts of most Americans, how he managed to win despite the issues countless investigations and processes that opened.

If you examine it in essence, this journey contradicts all the sermons that American diplomats and middle and low-level officials have been preaching about Albania for years.

On January 6, four years ago, after not having recognized the victory of his opponent Joe Biden, certified by all institutions, after crying without evidence that his vote had been stolen, Trump who had not yet left the presidency , called on his supporters to fight to win America back. "If you don't fight for democracy your country will come undone," he told the crowd, promising to march with them on the Capitol to pressure congressmen not to approve the allegedly rigged results.

Although the death toll rose to four, despite scenes of violence and destruction inside the US Congress, Trump continued to call the attackers "special people" and wrote on Twitter that he "loved" those who did not accept the unproven theft of the vote.

Four years later, the Americans sent this politician profile to the head of their country. But, after all this, don't the pathetic statements of the US embassy in Tirana look ridiculous, when a chair is burned in the assembly, when a firecracker is thrown on the prime minister, or when a wall of the town hall is scratched?

Nay, these symbolic episodes, which show that the people do not feel the same fear of instability as the bureaucrats who react from the darkness of their offices, are only the surface side of how Trump's victory can be translated here from our side. The essence lies elsewhere. And it is related to the shocking surprise of a candidate who, being persecuted by the justice system of his country, could not prevent him from winning. Since being stripped of office, Donald Trump has faced an endless number of criminal and civil lawsuits. Criminally, he was investigated for interference in elections, for manipulation of classified documents, for attempts to bribe porn star Stormy Daniels, not to speak against him, as well as for the attack on the Capitol. Besides these, he faced civil processes for tax evasion and sexual aggression. The purpose of this whole campaign was accused by his Republican supporters as an attempt to prevent their idol from running in the elections.

But first, the Supreme Court rejected a claim by the state of Colorado to remove Donald Trump from the presidential race, while, this Tuesday, most American citizens rejected the illusion that there can be institutions, even those of justice, that can to determine, in their place, who they want to elect as the head of the country. America proved that it cannot swallow the instrumentalization of race or the shrinking that a certain racketeer caste makes of the immeasurable opportunities to decide.

But the example of this America completely contradicts the practice that the officials mandated by it are practicing in Tirana, where by means of the so-called reform in justice, they are removing all rivals of power from the electoral game. The same methods, which failed to deter Trump, are being successfully supported by US diplomats to throw out the heads of the Albanian opposition parties and undo the result of the popular vote, as happened in Himara. Those who threatened Albanian voters with "eating grass", who violated every diplomatic code by calling not to vote for "non gratat", have now chosen to support a segment of justice, which claims to change the political elites by avoiding and overcome the vote. This is diametrically opposed to the popular verdict of this Tuesday.

So, in conclusion, it can be said that over 70 million Americans have made the approach that American foreign policy is experimenting here with us look ridiculous. But be careful! Although it seems that this conclusion goes in favor of the official opposition in the country, which has been the big loser of this farce with justice, no one should entertain illusions that, from now on, everything will change for the better.

Historically, America has proven that the values and principles that apply to it are not binding even for the small satellites that follow behind it. Exactly what the socialist philosopher and intellectual, the author of "A Popular History of the USA", Howard Zinn considers as American hypocrisy, it is not surprising to repeat this turn.

Even more so, a controversial leader like Donald Trump does not provide any guarantee for the cultivation of these values. Therefore, although the Republican billionaire's victory overturned the fable so far, it is not to say that the farce of an American-backed autocracy will not continue.
