If he failed to convince many, he at least managed to surprise the majority of the Albanian public opinion, taking with him what until yesterday was known as the middle grouping in the Democratic Party and leading it to Rrugica. Now the Doctor, locked up at home by SPAK, took control of the largest portion of the Democratic Party's deputies, and this is no small success for an almost 80-year-old politician, who is considered finished (behind the scenes) even those who stay behind all day.
The union was achieved, the means and ways are known to those who carry it out. Now Reestablishment is free to sing victory and try to sell what happened as the antechamber to return to power in 2025. It is free to dream with its eyes wide open, as the right-wing opposition has been dreaming such dreams for ten years, staying where it is. In opposition.
However, in this case, it is worth doing a small logical exercise, an equation based on cold reason, not on Berisha's speeches from the top of the attic, to present to the protagonists of the union. And the logical equation can be summarized in these lines:
Berisha and Bardhi joined forces, until now the electoral law forbids them to run with the DP logo, Basha continues to insist on his lane and only enters the elections by dividing the opposition vote, Rama and the Americans remain cold towards these developments, the electoral code of does SP and DP (of Basha), the elections after a year are won by SP, the internationals rush to recognize them as they did in 2021, the united oppositions, the Freedom Party and the official DP take (whoever can) the mandate of the opposition deputy for the following four years (2025-2029) and Berisha will have to maintain himself with patience and health until the end of the decade in the minority, filed by the US and under investigation by Albanian justice. Bardhi and others pocket the parliamentary mandates, Rama pockets the governing mandate.
This is the cynical reality that even the Berisha-Bardhi united opposition is forced to step on until the elections. A reality which of course can be influenced by some not insignificant factors in the electoral year we have entered. Thirdly, it will be seen how the electoral code will take shape, if there will really be a reform in this direction before the general elections. Finally, I will wait to see if there is still any hope left for a real, not partial, union of the entire opposition (including Basha) around a neutral candidate for prime minister, as is being rumored these days.
All these variables can somewhat modify the final result of the above logical exercise, but we must not forget that we are quite close to the elections and every day that passes makes it more difficult to overturn this equation. Without forgetting that the SPAK factor, the main element of surprise in this period that separates us from the elections, can strike both left and right (incinerators, January 21, CEZ-DIA, Gërdeci).
Gaz Bardhi and others have joined arms with a political party that really advertises today somewhere around 400,000 popular votes, but that in terms of winning the elections only offers defeat. Apparently, these gentlemen have reduced their claims and only want the mandate of the deputy, and this must be respected as a personal and vital need of every person who goes to Berisha today, not to Basha. But such a step requires, at least, that these deputies who left the "middle square" and went to Reestablishment, be honest and open with their voters. Who is waiting for the victory, not the renewal of the personal mandate of a group of men and women who want to be in the Assembly even after 2025.
