For four years, Sali Berisha has achieved in Albanian politics what no other leader has dared to do or achieve. He has been sanctioned by the US and has opposed the US with all his might, without any complexes. He hid it for a while behind Lulzim Basha, pretending to have a problem with him, after he had declared him "non grata", but after he defeated him, he remained in front of the US and continued the battle.
The truth is that the US did not lift the sanctions and probably never will, but he effectively undone them in the eyes of Democrats and his supporters.
He is the first political leader in Albania who not only withstood such a severe attack from the US, but turned it into a political movement and won.
He won over our judicial system, by dubiously obtaining party credentials; he won over the justice system, which dared not even touch him as "non grata"; and above all he won in the eyes of his supporters, who have 100 percent undone the "non women" of the US from their minds and call it a decoration.
This is an unimaginable victory for any other political leader in the country. Here he has defeated everyone, even Edi Rama, after proving that the Albanian right-wing electorate is not, as claimed, a pro-American demos. At the first opportunity given to it, the Albanian right supported an anti-American without any complexes, justifying itself with invented lies: “Soros did it”, “Lul Basha did it”, “McGonigal did it”, “Edi Rama did it”, etc.
Everyone knew they were lying to themselves, but they supported Berisha until the end. Even those who were considered couriers for the US embassy in Tirana by the DP headquarters, in the end, between the US and Berisha, elected Berisha and became his deputies.

Exactly as he himself achieved that victory, with so much effort; exactly as he built the victory with false causes to mask his battle with the USA; exactly as he undone it in six months.
Since the May 11 elections, when they had to pay $6 million to lift the "non grata" sanctions on Berisha and his family, they, instead of the result they have not yet achieved, have served the Democrats with empty promises about "buying the US" from them and changing power through the US.
So, the man who single-handedly faced the US, who gave identity to his battle with the US by dragging the entire Albanian anti-communist right against the US, surrendered his victory by paying money to undo it.
The poor Democrats, who had been cursing the US from morning to night for four years for sanctioning their leader, deleted their old posts and became all pro-American.
The last week's battle was even more frustrating for them. The invitation for Edi Rama to represent Albania on the Peace Board confused them and they had to invent two lies a day, in the hope of keeping their six-month narrative afloat.
The opposition faced today all its lies of the last six months and, autosuggested by the invention of a US battle with Edi Rama, undone Berisha's entire political identity for the last four years, stripping him of the only political value he produced: putting his personality above that of the US.
And what happened was what we saw in Parliament. Edi Rama was mocked in a session that was supposed to be solemn, and they all voted in a row for his name to represent them in Washington, out of the same complex that has kept them alive for the last six months: the idea that they have "bought" the US and it will remove them from power.
Now, not that he would have gained anything great if he hadn't voted for him, but at least he would have remained himself. Now he is simply a paymaster who, with stolen money, seeks to be accepted by the "enemy", whom he defeated for free for four years.
This is what happens when you lie to others about everything and, in the end, you lie to yourself too.
