Parliamentary elections are on the horizon, and the Albanian opposition is entering these elections with its non-grata leader in the US and Britain.
With Trump's victory, the Albanian opposition showed an enthusiasm never seen before in Albania for an issue affecting foreign policy. This is for the reason that its leader Sali Berisha had raised a narrative that his non-grata had come as a result of Sorros' lobbying to attack him personally and the Albanian opposition, and the US State Department had fallen prey to this lobbying. The arrival of Donald Trump in the White House would change this reality. In fact, many of Berisha's supporters publicly declare that Berisha's non-wife will be removed by the Trump administration.
But today, a statement by the United States Embassy in Tirana, which reiterated that it does not cooperate with politicians designed as someone involved in corruption by the State Department, reignited this debate once again.
Of course, many supporters of Berisha will say that Trump has not entered the office, that the US in charge of Tirana is a remnant of the old administration, and other theories like these. However, today's statement showed once again that the US has nothing to do with the Albanian opposition, but simply with people who are non-women, despite the fact that they may be leaders of a party. Also, these statements against Berisha should be seen in the context of the political moment where Albania is.
Parliamentary elections are on the horizon, and the Albanian opposition is entering these elections with its non-grata leader in the US and Britain. This is definitely a big minus for the Democratic Party. It is not conceivable that in Albania a person who is not a woman in the USA becomes prime minister. This cannot happen for many reasons, geopolitical and political. In this sense, the Albanian opposition must start thinking seriously about this fact, and start thinking about the rotation. However, the discussion about the rotation with Sali Berisha non-grata and without her removal, cannot even begin.
Sali Berisha can even be removed from the non-women with the Trump administration, although it seems difficult, at least until the next elections, but as long as he will continue to be like that, the DP's coming to power seems impossible.
It seems impossible with Sali Berisha as the main protagonist and candidate for prime minister. If the Albanian opposition finds another strategy for this function, it can also happen. It must be said, and the Albanian opposition must understand, that Sali Berisha is definitely a factor for the rotation, even the main factor, but can he lead the opposition to victory being non-women?!
It has never happened, and it can never happen, that a NATO member country elects a non-female person from the USA and Great Britain, countries that lead NATO, to the head of the government. Even more so for a society like the Albanian one that sees America as its main ally. If this conjuncture changes is another story. But, if things remain as they are for Berisha, the Democratic Party should start thinking seriously about another formula in terms of rotation, which does not see Berisha as the sole and main protagonist, or as a candidate for prime minister.
