It is enough to take stock of the election campaigns and results in 34 years, to be convinced that the Democratic Party was "born" only to lose. Won in 1992 and 2005? Berisha's arguments that "we are the photographer, the DP is the future of this country" are not at all convincing. In 1992, the Democratic Party won because of the popular anger that had gathered against the former communist system. In 2005, the "victory" came as a result of the "selfish" actions of Fatos Nano. One never thinks that Berisha could have won in 2005, while Nano's government was still at its peak. But let's go further. From 2013 until today, the Democratic Party has lost not a few, but some 7 pairs of elections, and with deep, local and general results. Her claims about "stealing, buying and selling votes" turned out to be bluffs, after the ballot boxes were opened.
The defeats of the Democratic Party in almost every pair of elections have been accompanied by the contradictions foreseen by its historical leader. At first, "Basha was to blame", but even when he violently left the Democratic Party, it turns out that the defeats in the elections are the worst series of that party. Found today without new names, without new approaches and acceptances, shrunk and closed in the "kuvli" dealing from morning to dinner with Edi Rama, Berisha's PD, already sealed, risks not only disintegration within September-October, in 2-3 new parties, but also a spectacular defeat in the 2025 elections.
He has been in the opposition for 12 years, and until today we have not seen or heard, from Berisha and his close staff, talk about the way to victory in the new elections, about the program of that party in case of victory, about new approaches in the party , for the reorganization of structures, the refreshment of local leaders, for new memberships, for connections and cooperation with sister parties in the Region and Europe. From this PD, we are still not hearing how its relations with the international factor, with the USA, with the chancelleries of the EU countries will change positively, since without their support, its victory seems very distant.
In the best case, in every right-wing party in Europe (as PD claims), its leader would have taken steps behind. This is for the sake of the issue, the cause, and the future of the party. But this does not happen, and is not likely to happen in Mr. Berisha's clan and provincial party. And to think that, to defeat Edi Rama today, with that balance of achievements and positive successes in the political, economic, or international level, this DP would need 4 presidents at the same time, and another 12 years of work, until now door with the Albanians, to win the elections. Without even realizing it (of course it's the opposite), Mr. Berisha has pushed the Democratic Party into a downward spiral of no return. But the situation inside it seems more dramatic, when we hear the howls from below the balcony of those cheering the leader's speeches.
A political party, since the first day of its creation, naturally has power as its main objective. There is no political force or grouping that does not target him, as the party is not a construction company that launders money. But what happened and is happening with the DP is a special case, which eats up a lot of debate, and needs deep and well-thought-out political analysis. A party that always loses elections has lost the chance to compete as such in electoral elections without carrying out the process of "self-cleansing" within it.
