Why can a 14-year-old's life be taken away?!

What problem can two children have with each other so big that they clash to the death?

A shocking event happened in Tirana. A 14-year-old boy was stabbed and died, while another, also 14-year-old, was injured as a result of a fight near a 9-year-old school in the heart of Tirana. The event has shocked public opinion and undoubtedly should have been the news and concern of the day today. Unfortunately, this is bad news, but it should raise alarm bells about how Albanian teenagers live or think. Today, parents and families feel more worried about their children, more anxious about the future and the society we are building and the young people who are growing up in this society.

Why could a teenager take the life of a 14-year-old peer? There is no reason to take someone's life, but when it comes to a 14-year-old child, the absurdity is complete. Why did they fight and conflict to the point of killing each other? What problem can two children have with each other so big that they clash to the death?

The answer is that there is no answer. There is none, no matter how hard we try. So why do such acts of aggression occur among teenagers to the point of taking their own lives? This is where the problem begins. The point is that today in the society we live in, our teenagers are growing more aggressive, unhappier and uneducated.

Characteristics which then lead to such acts. The aggressiveness of teenagers growing up in our society is not only seen in this case, even though it is an extreme case, but also in everyday life. We all watch on the street how they speak, how they behave and how they think. The language they use is a language that does not promise much for the future of this society. Of course not everyone is like that. In most cases, Albanian teenagers are exemplary.

But we cannot hide that in some of them there is a culture of violence that should make us worry. If they are growing up this way, with a culture of violence, be it verbal or physical, it is obviously not their fault. Does it belong to the school, families or the state?

I have the impression that all three of these institutions. Of the educational system, because the entire Albanian school is a system that is based on knowledge and has forgotten education. There are two concepts that do not always go hand in hand. They have forgotten that the function of the school in the first place is to shape the citizens and then to make them knowledgeable citizens. And what is the use of knowledge if it is not used as it should be and when it does not carry people with civic culture?

If you look at Albanian schools today, teachers have been replaced by computers. More and more we see less teachers and more computers. But the function, especially in the adolescent phase, is essential, not only for knowledge but also for shaping worthy people of a society. I am sure that no teacher in the Albanian educational system has read, or read little, about the psycho-emotional evolution of a teenager. They may know physics, chemistry, biology very well, but they don't understand anything about the existential issues of a teenager. Even more so when it comes to such a delicate age. In this regard, Albanian schools do nothing to educate, and above all, to understand and help a teenager at this stage of life.
Albanian families also have little or no understanding of their teenage children. Albanian families, since they themselves come from poverty, think that the realization of all their wishes for their children is the main objective. In fact, it is not so. The main task of a parent is to educate, understand and talk to their children about all the problems they present. In fact, sometimes, fulfilling all the wishes of a teenager is the worst thing that can be done. By doing so, they are taking away their purpose and goals in life. And without goals and objectives, you cannot have a happy life and a stable psycho-emotional state.

The state also has its own problems with school safety, but in this case it is not the main factor that could lead to the taking of a 14-year-old's life. If it didn't happen at school, it could happen somewhere else. The point is that a cultural and social alarm should be raised for which a deeper discussion is needed.

On the other hand, the Albanian media gives a good hand to this violent culture among teenagers and young people. If you look, the model of happiness that is promoted in the Albanian media is not that of culture, knowledge and good behavior. On the contrary, the model of happiness that is conveyed in our media is the model of violence, of aggressive language, of quick enrichment, which leads to inhuman actions. In fact, sometimes people are promoted who have manipulation and deception as their strongest point. There is a culture of the strong in our media that is turning into a model. A culture that is undoubtedly amplified by social networks where there is no filter, and all kinds of banality and violence has turned into entertainment for teenagers.

For all these reasons, today we have in most cases aggressive teenagers, unhappy, almost in most cases in depression, and that no one understands. Although today they have more financial opportunities, more conditions to live, have fun and learn than their parents had, they still behave in this way. The killing of a 14-year-old by a peer, in all likelihood for a banal motive, should make all social institutions reflect on what kind of society we are building, and what future awaits us with this culture of violence?
