If it is required to take stock of oppositionism in Albania, it is enough to see the 'parabola' of political developments within the PD, in the span of one year, and you have it all.
It is a year that includes all political movements, from accusations, threats, quarrels to hugs and 'waving of the waist'. PD is a strange party already and its political amplitude of its movements resembles that pendulum that swings and shakes, but always rotates around a defined and clearly fixed axis, which has practically never moved in 34 years of queue.
The main "axis" or if we will use a popular Albanian expression, the "pin" where all the threads of the PD are tied is neither less nor more, but himself, the inimitable and immortal Sali Berisha. As long as he breathes, he will be the pivot in DP. It is his property.
In the span of one year, extraordinary transformations have taken place in PD, to the extent of crossing the political 'rainbow', as part of today's democratic leadership has been transformed from implacable opponents of Sali Berisha, to full-time and subjected to it.
This metamorphosis, this transformation has happened in the most spectacular way possible, especially those who are called the group of supporters of Lul Basha, led by Gazment Bardhi and Agron Gjekmarkaj, and who currently make up the majority of the DP parliamentary group.
A 'piece' of the MP's mandate has caused their determination so that "PD is cleaned of anti-US and anti-justice politicians", to melt immediately, to precipitate in statements of the type "Berisha irreplaceable leader of the opposition", 'Berisha energizes us and fills us with strength and courage' and other statements of this type. Even joining his voice with Berisha to attack those who promoted him in politics, in this particular case Basha. who, for the sake of truth, is a functional lazy person, otherwise there was no way to melt the leadership of the DP in his hand, while the political 'father' had wounded him with the exclusion from the group and the DP after being declared non grata by the USA.
Such a transformation is nothing new, especially of Gazment Bardhi and Agron Gjekmarkaj, one already the chairman of the DP parliamentary group, the other the vice-chairman of the Assembly, and both together, appointed by Berisha, this indomitable 'lover' of free vote and competition in DP and through the primaries, as DP vice-presidents. Simply and only because they betrayed Lul Basha and "swallowed" all the accusations against Berisha, joining with Berisha, whom they had accused and cursed for two years in a row, until the clash and "civil war" within the DP .
They also helped to give him the seal and logo of the DP and finally recognized him as the full-fledged president of the DP, with the right to decide on their political fate, which they have already left "hostage" in their hands of Berisha. As expected, in fact, despite the serious accusations and accusations that have been leveled against the democratic president, or the face of the "aggression" with graves and coffins on January 8 against the headquarters of the DP on the edge of Lana, where thanks to the armoring of doors and windows, tear gas and intervention quickly avoided the dismissal of the headquarters by Berisha. To deliver it two months later without any resistance, into his hands.
"Zeni's father, the only person responsible for 26 people killed in Gërdec, should at least find time to go to his bachanak for consolation. Meanwhile, in the span of a year, Bardhi worked hard to sabotage all the complaints of Basha and Alibeaj about Berisha, to then officially hand over not only the stamp and logo of the DP, but also the entire leadership of the DP to Sali Berisha.

Për kaq i duhet PD, Bardhi dhe tërë deputetët e tjerë, që lëvrijnë korridoreve të PD apo në Parlament, thjeshtë dhe vetëm për t’i rënë në sy dhe për të marrë një vend të sigurt në listën e mbyllur të kandidatëve për deputetë në zgjedhjet e vitit të ardhshëm.
Teksa Berisha bën sikur mendohet për përfshirjen përmes primareve në këto lista, ia vlen të theksojmë se në primare as Bardhi dhe as Gjekmarkaj nuk e kanë të sigurt kandidimin në listat e sigurta, Berisha i ka shndërruar këtë grup që lëvizi ‘paketë’ nga Basha në drejtim, të tij, në atë farë feje, sa nuk ta po gjejnë kohë as të drejtojnë trupin, të cilin e mbajnë tërësisht të kërrusur përballë Berishës.
Përfshirë dhe Gjekmarkajn. I cili kishte deklaruar se “nëse fiton linja e Berishës, unë largohem nga Partia Demokratike”. Ndërsa tani e quan Berishën ‘elektrizues të PD”, deri ndriçues dhe shansi i vetëm që opozita të vijë në pushtet. Meanwhile, Berisha is looking for a stable alibi to justify his defeat in the elections of May 11, 2025. Not because he is afraid that someone will remove him from the leadership of the DP because of the statute which provides that the losing chairman automatically leaves the leadership. Don't ask Berisha about these things. In fact, Berisha wants to keep the supporters of the democrats at bay, as much as they have left, in coping with the fourth mandate in the opposition. Because no one believes you, no alternative, no promise when you see that the PD leadership is lying to them. If they had kept their word, especially Bardhi and Gjekmarkaj, they would not have been in politics after Berisha took over the leadership of PD.
But the 'parabola' of the political movements of people near Berisha, starting from Bardhi and Gjekmarkaj and ending with Salianji, who before entering prison for 'Babale' had made the great 'transformation' from an opponent with a stick in his hand against Berisha as his supporter, best shows the situation without a 'backbone' of the PD leadership. Which is now completely at the service of Berisha, for his personal troubles, and not at all at the service of the democrats or the citizens to make the opposition that belongs to him.
This is how this year ended, with the K'cim of Tropoja, which was officially declared part of the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in UNESCO, as well as the announcement of the "K'cim of Berisha" as the "soundtrack" of DP politics . It's not a little, two strong achievements in one year. The elections are over with time and food for DP. On May 11, 2025, according to the principle 'participation is important, not the result', Berisha will receive a handful of votes, translated into a handful of deputies, loyal to him. Whom he will use and confuse even more for his own personal problems that are only increasing. We do not know if Bardhi and his group will have the 'luck' to become MPs and be used by Berisha again. Or in a lucky case, to 'cross the rainbow' again. They did it once, they opened the way. But the cost to the Democrats is huge.
