Tirana has experienced two intense days as it hosted the leaders of the region as well as the Ukrainian president. The latter's visits are not that common in the war situation that his country is experiencing, but the organization of a summit like nowhere else from Albania brought Volodymyr Zelenski to Tirana. Both organizations of this end of February received the deserved echo from the international media, extinguishing any doubts about their usefulness mainly in the international arena. But even in domestic politics, their presence in the Albanian capital shows the seriousness of foreign policy today, as well as the ranking of Albania as a worthy member of NATO today and of the EU tomorrow.
Albania, which for 15 years was used to seeing the visit of American President George W. Bush as a great achievement even though he was at the end of his second term, today has returned international summits to its heart as something ordinary. Sipari opened with innovation when the Albanian-Kosovo joint governments began to meet in Tirana at the request of the Albanian government. Then, the European Union Summit brought to the heart of Albania last year all the leaders of the member countries of the European family and the highest heads of Brussels. And this summit, thanks to the organization, revealed not only an Albania worthy of sitting equal with the West at the political table, but also brought a promotion of culture, tradition and tourism.
Take a moment to compare the Albania of yesterday with that of today. A country that foreigners used only for humanitarian operations such as ALBA or PELIKAN, can be a donor in every natural disaster of the allies and a contributor to every just war. Today's Albania discusses with Zelensky how it can give everything to win the war. And this, after Ukraine became the most beautiful lawyer ever in the Security Council, when the latter was headed by the prime minister of Albania.
Are these all coincidences? Of course not, otherwise we would have seen them even once in the past Albania. All are consequences of the seriousness with which the country presents itself in the international arena, the promises kept and the race it has taken towards EU membership. Above all, with the truths that the Albanian government bluntly tells the European Union today, even when the latter seems to have no 'mind' for expansion. So apparently today they love us more. Therefore, Tirana has returned to the capital of summits.
