Berisha's Waterloo

Berisha's Waterloo

He sees the battle with Rama as a way to keep the DP united around him, as he is clear that not only can he not defeat him, but the destruction will only become deeper and deeper!

It was one of the least-resonant campaigns after the election. The arrival of the presidents of European countries four days after the elections and the warm meetings with Rama put an end to the claims. What Yuri Kim did four years ago, this time Meloni, Starmer and Macron did.

The new parties are apparently satisfied with a result they did not expect. They already have 1-2 deputies in parliament. Albanian history has shown that usually such formations have their peak of brilliance and then either are assimilated by the big parties in the form of a wagon or simply disappear and their leaders continue to be television commentators. They have a chance that the decomposition of the DP may give them the opportunity to take pieces of it. This requires will, resistance, ideas and money to survive.

The case worth analyzing is the DP. Berisha's return resembles in miniature Napoleon's return from exile on the island of Elba and his 100 days of glory that ended with Waterloo, but the similarity ends there. After all, Napoleon was a peasant who became emperor, while Berisha was a peasant who could never free the village from its yoke.

After being expelled from the party, Berisha entered the battle to regain the party. But those who were waiting for him were no longer the 20-30-year-olds of the '90s but some tired old men, with falling hair and protruding bellies. They were no longer the idealistic youth but officials expelled from office who were waiting to return with the rusty spoons in their belts.

Those 20-year-olds who surrounded him on his return have no idea what revolutions and battles are. Even more so when the aging leader confuses Toma with Roma. They are simply those who have seen their parents say that by being in a party you can win some money. Just a lottery. But revolutions are not made by gamblers who mortgage their fate.

On the day that European delegations were in Albania and Britain's Starmer and France's Macron were on official visits, Berisha concocted a phantom trip to Brussels where he met, among others, Alastair Campbell, who cried for votes. And to whom, the man who is Edi Rama's advisor and suggested the color purple for the party and the term renaissance for the PS's innovation.

Berisha's body language showed misery. The path that accompanied him is the same as those who have party logos but whose parties do not have a single vote, and who know that with Berisha their cycle ends.

Berisha left Tirana because no one wants to approach him anymore and no one agrees to shake his hand. For those who were once his counterparts, he is a closed and dirty story that no one will interfere with.

He now has two final battles of his life: To try to remove the "non-grata" at least for his children and in the meantime to keep the DP united as a political shield and as a financial venture.

For the first, it is investing amounts that would make even a country several times larger than Albania jealous. With that much lobbying money, Kosovo would be recognized by about 20 other countries.

For the second, he has chosen a parliamentary group where out of 50 people, take away 5-6 of them, what is left would be worth more for a boxing team. Those who join that party and try to give themselves a political identity, show that they do not have such instincts at all or are acting foolish, if they do not have such.

He has the battle with Rama as a pretext to keep the DP united around him, as he is clear that not only can he not defeat him, but the collapse will become deeper and deeper year after year. Meanwhile, Rama needs Berisha instead of an anesthetic. After all, only under anesthesia can the DP electorate push him for another four years in opposition, which when added together make 16 and it is no wonder they reach 20. It is enough for Berisha to maintain his health.
