The three states were Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, which Biden had won in 2020 by very small margins, and where polls showed him slightly below his opponent Trump.
But with the withdrawal of President Biden from the race and the entry of Kamala Harris into the race, a new path has opened to secure at least 270 electors - the state of Georgia.
In this state, Biden won by just 0.1% four years ago, but before he withdrew from the race he was 6 points behind in the latest Emerson College poll. This difference was well beyond the poll's statistical margin of error!
And now we come to Kamala Harris.
In the latest Landmark Communications poll, Kamala Harris is only 1 point down in a two-way showdown with Trump in Georgia, compared to 6 points down for Biden before he dropped out of the race. Whoever wins in Georgia secures 16 electors in the Electoral College, which will decide who will govern the US for the next four years.
Biden secured his narrow victory four years ago in Georgia, thanks to a lead among black voters, among female voters, and among highly educated voters. It seems that these voters are returning to the Democratic Party, after replacing the old man Biden with Kamala Harris, a black, female and highly educated candidate.
