A serious accident occurred this evening in the city of Berat where a 30-year-old woman was fatally hit by a vehicle.
The incident is reported to have occurred on the "Berat-Dimal" road axis, in Morava, where the driver of the vehicle, a 25-year-old man, hit the 30-year-old mother, who was with her 2-year-old son at the time.
The young woman is reported to have died on the way to the hospital after failing to survive her injuries, while the 2-year-old child is reported to have fortunately not suffered any injuries.
The driver of the vehicle has been arrested while police are working to fully clarify the circumstances of the accident that took the young woman's life.
"Berat/Preliminary information At around 18:35, on the "Berat-Dimal" road axis, in Morava, citizen AT, 25 years old, driving his vehicle, hit citizen L. Gj., 30 years old, and her 2-year-old child (pedestrians). Citizen L. Gj., as a result of the injuries sustained, died, while her child has no life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the vehicle is being escorted to the Police premises for further procedural actions.
"The investigation team is at the scene and continues investigative actions to clarify the causes of the accident ," the police announced.
It is worth noting that the fatality figures from road accidents in our country continue to be high, influenced by many factors; the lack of signage and lighting in residential areas, the lack of overpasses on road axes, corruption in obtaining driving licenses, and the lack of punishment for such fatal cases.
