Journalist Lutfi Dervishi has criticized the way in which, according to him, the government has handled the debate over the 4 million euro fund for the concert of American artist Kanye West, emphasizing that the problem does not lie in the amount of money, but in the discrepancy between public statements and actions.
Dervishi said that previous statements by government representatives, according to which money from the state budget would not be used, contradict later positions that the funds would be returned. According to Dervishi, the issue is not only related to the use of 4 million euros, which, according to him, could have been invested in other sectors such as emergency services or infrastructure, but to the message being conveyed by the government.
He argued that a mentality has been created in Albania according to which power is considered irreplaceable, while political rotation is treated as a danger to the country.
The journalist also focused on the protests that have taken place in recent weeks, assessing that they have created an opportunity for reflection on the part of the government. According to him, the protesters have not demanded the replacement of power with another political force, but have demanded a change in the way of governance. However, he expressed that, in his assessment, the statements about listening to citizens have not been accompanied by concrete actions.
" The problem is that words don't matter here. Where does the word of the Minister of Finance, the other minister, the MPs who say zero lek from the state budget go... Now they say "they will go back". That is, to mock the normal conscience of a person. We are not talking about how many will go back and how many will leave. What remains is this: there is a different mentality here. We can do whatever we want. We accept that we are wrong, but it is never thought that we can leave power. And the equation of a party, a person, with Albania. This is completely abnormal and illogical. The people can make mistakes, but the people are the ones who correct them very quickly. The leaving of power, the leaving, the opening of the wing, the rotation was done by the SP.
It has changed 4-5 prime ministers. It did not find anything in Albania. It continued the processes, it moved forward. That is, it has never been a tragedy to change a prime minister, nor a change of government, nor a political rotation. It is being experienced as a national tragedy if some kind of change occurs. The protest has given it the opportunity, 40 days are giving it an opportunity, it says "we have not created a political party, we are not asking you to leave and we come". It has given it an opportunity to change. What is the change? Here are just a few words. "We are listening to you, we are taking notes". With concrete actions they do the opposite. And in this case, this is the symbolism of this action. It is not simply a matter of 4 million euros that could have been used to buy firefighting aircraft, or to build ambulances, or to invest in other areas. It is not simply this budget arithmetic. "It's just a gesture that you make, that simply ignores the word you gave yourself ," Dervishi said in the "Off the Record" studio on A2CNN.
