Operation in Berat
On November 11, the Police announced that they had seized a quantity of 870 kilograms of cannabis sativa narcotic. The narcotic substance was cultivated and processed in about two hectares of greenhouses by dozens, mostly women of various ages.
The coded operation "Storm" led to the arrest of 11 people, who are suspected of organizing the cultivation, processing and trading of narcotics, while around 100 people were escorted.
Hamdi Dyli, Endriol Xheka, Blerim Xheka, Samoel Lushaj, Jurgen Ujkaj, Mirvaldo Disha, Sidrit Bisha, Bashkim Mema, Edison Mema, Drita Mema and Izmire Mema ended up in handcuffs.
The most important role in the organization of the cultivation of cannabis on a large scale was that of a family from the village of Nikël i Krujës, an area from which a large number of women were employed and also known for the cultivation of cannabis over the years.
It is about a married couple, their daughter and son-in-law. This family is suspected to be the organizer and supervisor of all the criminal activity of production and trade of narcotics.
Also, they are accused of being related to the "heads" of criminal activity, who are suspected to be two citizens also from Nikla, already identified, but their names are not yet made public due to the investigation, until their arrest.
Among the 11 arrested are mother and daughter, Drita and Izmira Mema, along with their husbands. They hired women from the areas of Fushë-Kruja, telling them that they would plant olives and then, using threats, involved them in the process of processing the plants.
The police also seized three firearms and other items used for the processing and packaging of narcotics. During the interrogation at the police of Berat, the working women stated that they had gone to pick olives against payments of 50 thousand old lek per day.
"They told me it's olive season. Come and we will pay. I left my children and my husband at home and the shopping for picking olives was very good". This is how one of the 95 women found in the cannabis farm in the village of Rëz, Berat, begins the story.
The 48-year-old woman, who lives in a village in Tirana, contacted the "owners" of the Berat olive trees through her neighbors, who had been made the same offer.
Two of them who found more than 3 million old lek in your body were handcuffed, unlike the hashish workers who will only be investigated for not reporting a crime.
