Eight people have been arrested in the operation started by a control by the Italian authorities, among them one local and seven Albanians. The Italian authorities discovered that in the greenhouses of Pistoia, not only carnations are grown, but also cannabis, which in this case would bring an income of about one million euros in the illegal market. It is learned that cannabis was cultivated in a 1100 square meter greenhouse inside.
The structure was equipped with 83 lamps and irrigation and humidification systems aimed at promoting the growth of the bushes, while an adjacent cell, measuring 16 m2, was used to dry the produced marijuana. Inside were found 1,700 cannabis plants, with an average height of about 50 centimeters, 100 kilograms of dried marijuana and a seed bed where about 2,000 sprouted seeds had been planted.
During subsequent checks, 700 more cannabis seeds, 5000 euros in cash and 2 precision scales were found and seized. The dried, ready-to-sell narcotic alone would have allowed over 100,000 single doses to enter the drug distribution markets, fueling an estimated illegal retail trade of around €1 million.
